Your skiing holiday in La Plagne

La Plagne weather forecast, La Plagne snow report:
La Plagne and Les Arcs, France form one of the biggest ski and snowboarding areas in the world "Paradiski". The Vanoise Express links the la Plagne ski area (near Montchavin-les Coches) to Plan Peisey in Les Arcs. La Plagne is a great destination for family ski holidays or for mixed ability group skiing holidays. La Plagne opens for skiing this winter on 12 December 2009. Most ski holiday operators such as Ski Beat Chalet Holidays open their ski chalets in la Plagne at the same time.
For next ski season many ski chalet operators have cut the number of catered ski chalets in la Plagne. This is likely to lead to a shortage of good ski holidays available particularly on peak dates. With the current economic climate make sure that you book your ski holiday with a fully bonded ski holiday company - do not simply rely on using your credit card.
We are aware of a number of special offers currently being launched - these are mainly special deals on la Plagne lift passes, ski school and ski hire. As soon as we have further details we will post them on our offers and news pages.

La Plagne in summer is great for a family holiday: there are a huge number of activities to choose from.
A history of la Plagne is available from the la Plagne tourist office website. The history concentrates on the building of the ski resort and misses out on the role of the locals during the Second World War. There were many skirmishes with the Germans including one above Champagny which gave rise to a piste being named "Mont de la Guerre". At La Plagne Centre there is a war memorial to British aircrew who were involved in the dropping of 12 plane loads of munitions; these were then hidden in the mines of what is now Plagne 1800 before being distribute more widely across the region.
Most skiers and snowboarders have become aware of the impact we have on the environment. It is unlikely that any skier or snowboarder will stop for this reason and we all want our holidays. To reduce the environmental impact when skiing or boarding there are a few simple choices: you can make a difference. Skiing in France is closest to the UK so there will be less fuel emissions when you take your ski holiday there; a high altitude ski resort means less artificial snow; to check out how la Plagne rates environmentally go to Save Our Snow. Some tour operators are notably more environmentally friendly than others: some simply invite you to make a contribution (they do not necessarily do anything themselves) whereas others have distinct policies on what they do.
