Champagny la Plagne is right on the edge of the Vanoise National Park, it is also very close to Courchevel and les Trois Vallees.
The village of Champagny is south-facing and at 1,250m is the first of the villages in la Plagne to lose the snow. Although the snow disappears from the village quickly there is some great skiing up the mountain and Champagny can make a great base for a winter (or summer) holiday in the Alps.
If you are looking for a two centred skiing holiday it would be an excellent choice if you self-drive to the Alps. You could stay in either Champagny or Courchevel la Tania (they are only a few miles apart), allowing easy access to the skiing in la Plagne and from la Tania the whole of Meribel and Courchevel.
Champagny itself has a lovely feel to it: an Alpine village with the convenience of the skiing in la Plagne but later in the season none of the inconvenience of ice and snow in the street. |
Ski & Snowboard Access: It is rare that you are able to ski or snowboard back to Champagny. If you are looking for ski in ski out accommodation you should look at one of the high altitude villages of la Plagne.
There is a good and efficient telecabine out of the village that takes you to 1800m. Once you are at the top of the telecabine skiing and snowboarding to the rest of the la Plagne ski area is easy. Champagny is not good if you are wanting to ski across to les Arcs.
See our unique piste guide for more details of all the skiing in la Plagne. |
