Belle Plagne (2,050 metres)

Belle Plagne from the Colosses chairlift Belle Plagne is a true ski in ski out resort: this is true for skiing and snowboarding alike.
The village is one of the highest in la Plagne. It is made up of apartments and hotels; there are just a few catered ski chalets. None of the chalets in Belle Plagne are stand alone chalets: they are apartments that are operated as if chalets. Over the last few years several new hotels in Belle Plagne have been built, this has increased the range and quality of the hotels in Belle Plagne.

Belle Plagne has been designed to be sympathetic to the mountains and yet offer maximum convenience for skiers and snowboarders alike. There are numerous shops, bars and restaurants all linked by covered walkways. Along with la Plagne 1800, Belle Plagne is one of the nicest of the la Plagne high altitude villages. Belle Plagne caters well for disabled skiers, both for ski accommodation and ski tuition. The best source of information is the Ski 2 Freedom Foundation, an international snow-sport portal providing disabled skiers with an information resource on ski resorts for Alpine skiing, snowboarding and winter activities.

Ski & Snowboard Access: Belle Plagne scores top marks for skiing and snowboarding access. You can catch the Bellecote telecabine from the centre of Belle Plagne, it is the stop after Plagne Bellecote and takes you to the Roche de Mio (2,700m). Subject to the top station on the glacier being rebuilt after a fire in August 2005 the second stage of the telecabine can be taken to 3,000m: see the la Plagne news section. This opens up a massive amount of off piste skiing as well as a blue, two reds and two steep black runs.
Alternatively, there is a new four seater chair or you can ski down to Plagne Bellecote where there is easy access by six seater chairs to either Plagne Centre or to the Montchavin and les Coches sector. The Vanoise Express to les Arcs starts just above les Coches, the combined area of les Arcs and la Plagne make up the giant Paradiski area.
See our unique piste guide for more details of all the skiing in la Plagne.
Accommodation Summary: There is a huge selection of ski apartments in Belle Plagne to fit almost any budget as well as a choice of hotels including the popular Hotel Eldorador. Apartments, hotels and ski chalets can be booked through the specialist ski travel agency Snow Hounds.
The only catered ski chalets are in large apartments: for genuine chalets Plagne 1800 offers a better selection.
The biggest selection of ski apartments in la Plagne is probably with:
Apres Ski: Amongst the villages of la Plagne, Belle Plagne is probably the best for apres ski. Last season there were four main bars and ten restaurants in Belle Plagne including la Tete Inn and le Matafan. There is also ten-pin bowling and a relaxation and fitness centre.

For a touch of relaxation after a day of skiing or snowboarding around the Paradiski there are a couple of mobile massage service operating in the resort. Massage Me therapists will come to your ski chalet to provide that extra bit of holiday pampering that you are after, or Pamper Off Piste are great for mobile physiotheraphy, osteopathy, massage and beauty services in the comfort of your chalet or holiday accommodation.
Ski Schools: The ESF ski school in Belle Plagne is well thought of; there are plenty of English speakers although service standards may slip during French holidays whereas group sizes and prices do not! In addition ESF offer skiing lessons for disabled people. The independent ski school Elpro operates from Belle Plagne. It has been known for British skiers staying in Belle Plagne to use the highly regarded independent ski school Reflex which although based in Plagne 1800 will often agree to meet elsewhere.
Hire Shops: There are a total of seven ski hire shops in Belle Plagne including Allamand Ski which is affiliated to Intersport. Any of these shops should be able to provide all the skiing and snowboarding equipment that you might need.
